Underage Gradings Football 2011
The underage club has now been notified of the club gradings in football for 2011
The minor footballers are due to begin their program with a game on Sunday 28th February 2011 at 11am.
U13Football West Region B Grade, U14Football West Region B Grade, U15 Premier 2 Grade, U16Football West Region A Grade, Minor Football West Region B Grade.
At present the games plan is being developed. All games from U13-18 are under the control of a new body Coiste na nOg which has just been set up to manage all games in the county and have a games master fixtures plan for all underage levels. This is a huge undertaking and there are bound to be teething problems as there are huge logistics involved and there is a huge amount of historical information to be processed to try to match teams and get gradings balanced. The games also have new structures. A central region which is countywide and is meant to cater for the strongest clubs in city and large urban areas and these are called Premier 1 and Premier 2. The West Region includes teams from Carbery, Beara and West Muskerry(Naomh Abán, Iveleary and Beal Atha'n Ghaorthaidh ?). The East Region will include clubs from Carrighdoun, Imokilly, East Muskerry and Seandun less teams that are included in the central region. The North Region will include clubs from Avondhu and Duhallow that are not included in the central region. The East, North and West will have grades "A", "B", "C", "D" and competitions will be run off on that basis. There will be leagues and championships run off at U14,16,18. The winners would go forward to play for county championship. It is hoped leagues will be organised in sections to avoid excessive travel. At U13, 15 it is likely this competition will only happen in the central region at the moment. This structure is being piloted for 2011 and 2012 and will be reviewed and modified accordingly. The gradings are being looked at for hurling currently and this is likely to be more difficult due to the regionalised nature of the hurling strongholds.
The U12 is to be run on the format of the Go Games and run as blitzes during the Summer months, April -September as will the U10's. No details are available at present..
These changes are part of the "Cork GAA Strategic Vision and Action Plan 2010-2015" and is an effort to develop structures for the association to suit the changing Ireland and to develop the games for the future.
