Notes 18/58/12

 The U13 Rebel Og Thiar football  final against Argideen Rangers was played in Clonakilty on Friday 11th May. The Kilmacs got a boost early in the game with a goal in the 3^rd minute by Oisin O’Driscoll and had the early advantage. Argideen then had their period of dominance and were getting scores to make the game close and exciting. After surviving a couple of near misses the Kilmacs were able to get a couple of more scores and had the advantage at half time on the score 1- 6 to 0 – 5.  Starting the second half strongly and with a goal by Ellis Wilson in the 6^th  minute the Kilmacs had the upper hand.  When Argideen goaled in the 16^th minute the Kilmacs were quick to cancel it out with another goal by Ellis Wilson. Argideen did come again for the final minutes but the Kilmacs had done enough to win on the score Kilmacabea  3- 13 Argideen Rangers 3-5. 

This was a great team performance with each one playing his part and the team has improved immeasurably as they have gelled with games. Young Keith Whelton was very sharp in goal. Adrian Gore and Odhran Kerrisk were very steady in defence and were able to deal with anything that came their way. Jamie O Donoghue was outstanding in the center of defence and in total control. Jamie Ronan may have been the smallest player on the pitch but was huge in everything he did. Ian Jennings was another who had a superb display and was immense going forward. Captain Damian Gore(0-7) led by example and was everywhere and was easily the leading player on the pitch even against players much bigger than him. Dara Tobin did a lot of work up and down linking attack and defence. Myles Tobin(0-2) also had a big role to play and really came into his own in the second half, winning a huge amount of possession and used it well. Ashley Deane had a tremendous game and was involved in everything and was very influential in the outcome. In the inside line Ellis Wilson(2-2) had a superb night and tormented the Argideen defence throughout. Beside him Oisin O’Driscoll(1-2) was lethal with possession and couldn’t be held. Others to play their part were Conor Nash, Colin Twomey, Ciarán Hernon, Christy Wilson, Gareth Whooley, Eolan Dineen, Mikey O’Mahony. Well done to all involved and mentors Bart Kerrisk, Michael Gore, Noel O’Donoghue, Frank Wilson.

 

The team played Adrigole in the region play off in Aughaville on Tuesday 15th. Against a well drilled team and with an injury to a key player early in the game the team performed below par and were beaten by a better side on the night. While it was disappointing they didn't do themselves justice and probably suffered for their exertions in the past few weeks and had done superbly to be where they are.

 The junior A football championship replay vs. Barryroe took place on  Sunday 13^th May  in Ahiohill.  The gale force wind was to play a huge part. Playing against the wind the Kilmacs had a major job to do with two goals conceded in the first five minutes. Barryroe tagged on further points and Kilmacabea got their only score with a goal just before half time to be behind 2-7 to 1-0. Starting the second half positively they set about the task and had added 5 points and hit the post in the first 7minutes and looked to be in a good position. Unfortunately they didn’t take advantage of the wind and while the gap was narrowed they now go in to the knockout stages after the final score Kilmacabea 1 -9 Barryroe 2- 8. They are now drawn to play neighbours Castlehaven in what will be a tough task.

Notes 9/5/12

The U13 footballers were too strong for a very young Carbery Rangers second team and were comfortable winners of the semifinal played tonight Tuesday in Catlehaven.

The final is fixed for this Friday 11th May in Clonakilty vs Argideen Rangers at 7.30pm


The minor footballers took on the Dohenys in the league in Dunmanway. In what was a tough competitive game the team gave a good account of them selves. While they ended up on the wrong side of a 2 - 5 to 1 - 10 scoreline it will stand to them in the long term.


Kevin O'Sullivan and Joe Collins were part of the Carbery senior football team that defeated CIT in the championship on Tuesday evening

Kilmacabea Notes 8/5/12

 Good luck to the U13 footballers who play the semi final of the Rebel Og Thiar Championship vs Carbery Rangers in Castlehaven on Tuesday 8th May at 7.30pm

Niall McCarthy, Reavouler won the first prize in the May club draw. Second went to Anthony Cahalane, Cloonkeen and third to Derry O Callaghan, Maulatrahane. Consolation prize winners were Heather O Donovan, Droum; John Jennings, Gortroe; John Patrick and Cillian Sheahan, Killinga and Sean and Rose O Mahony, Cooladreen.

On Tuesday 1^st May the Junior B footballers played Kilmeen in the league in Leap. After the recent Junior A championship there was a fear that there would be a struggle to find players. Instead there was a super response to Noel Crowley’s call and as well as that they were able to win the game on the score 2-5 to 0-4. Goleen were the visitors to Leap on both Wednesday and Saturday to play U10/12hurling. On both occasions the visitors were much too strong and skillful for the home team. As a lot of the players available were young and inexperienced they will improve with practice and games.

The U14 footballers played Newcestown in the league on Thursday night. The team played well in the first half and were value for their lead. As happens in underage the concession of a couple of early goals in the second half completely changed the game. The game ended as a draw Kilmacabea 2- 11 Newcestown 4-5. Notes 1/5/12

The junior A footballers were in championship action against Barryroe in Clonakilty on Saturday 28^th April. On a biting cold day, the very strong wind was to have a big bearing on the course of the game. Playing against the wind in the first half the Kilmacs were slow to settle. Despite conceding an early goal the Kilmacs were still in touch. The key score in the match was Barryroes immediate goal in response to Kilmacs goal on the 20^th minute and further scores were conceded in the minutes that followed. At half time the gap was 2-6 to 1-2. A substitution and positional switch at half time and the team came out for the second half and set about the task of reducing the gap. Early progress was made but as time passed a number of injuries broke the flow of the game. The equalising score came minutes before the end. Extra time was played and while both teams had their spell of control the teams still couldn’t be separated at the final whistle and will have to do it all again. The final score was 2-10 each. The club would like to wish Sam O’Driscoll well with his unfortunate injury. There were a number of other bruised bodies as well and hopefully they will be recovered before the replay.

On Thursday night 26^th April the U14 hurlers played O’Donovan Rossa in Skibbereen. Everyone worked hard but there was a general fatigue over the team which was lacking sparkle. A good effort was put in before defeat was the result on the score Kilmacabea 1-6 O’Donovan Rossa 2 – 8. 

The U13 footballers were in championship action on Monday 30^th when they took on Clanna Gael in Skibbereen. In very tough cold conditions for youngsters the wind was to have a big influence. The Kilmacs played against the wind in the first half and with everyone working very hard their effort was rewarded going in at half time level on the score Kilmacabea 0-6 Clanna Gael 1-3. Maintaining the effort for the second half they took advantage of the winds help to go on and win the game 2- 11 to 1-6. This was a good team performance with everyone playing their part. Team Conor Nash, Odhran Kerrisk, Ellis Wilson, Adrian Gore, Jamie O’Donoghue, Ian Jennings, Damian Gore, Myles Tobin, Ashley Deane, Dara Tobin, Keith Whelton, Oisin O’Driscoll, Jamie Ronan, Colin Twomey, Ciaran Hernon, Christy Wilson, Mikey O’Mahoney.

A number of club players, Odhran Connolly, Diarmaid O’Callaghan, Kevin Whooley were part of the St Fachtna's(Skibbereen) that won the Cork Colleges U16 A football final when they defeated Rochestown College on Wednesday 25^th April.

Notes 23/4/12

On Thursday night 19/4/12 the minor hurlers travelled to play Gabriel’s in Ballydehob. With limited numbers available and some of those having already had tough school games during the day it was a big ask. Never the less those present put in a good effort and the game was competitive before losing on the score 2-14 to 3-5. 

On Sunday morning the U12 footballers were away to Clanna Gael and for the second week running were on the right side of a one point winning margin 5-2 to 2-10.

The important match this week is the 1^st round of the junior A football championship when Kilmacabea take on Barryroe in Clonakilty on Saturday, 28^th April at 4.30pm.Support is important.

An interesting article in the Irish Examiner on Saturday 21^st April, on the development of the GAA in Spain including the involvement of underage players. Featured in the article was Colm O’Donovan, Sunnyhill, Leap who is involved with Valencia. Colm was a fine player with Kilmacabea underage, 10-15 years ago. It is good to see the games being promoted to new audiences. It is a reflection of the times with people scattered throughout the world in the search of employment especially in the current economic climate, the role the GAA plays in people lives and the importance in the social network.

Kilmacabea Notes 16/4/12

Kilmacabea were hosts to St Oliver Plunketts in Leap last Sunday afternoon 15/4/12 in the junior A football league. Another entertaining game was served up in near perfect conditions for football. The home side appeared to have the edge for much of the game but two late goals for Plunketts brought them right back into it. Kilmacabea were lucky to survive on a final score of 3 - 11 to 3 - 10. The previous Thursday the second junior team were away to Clonakilty in the junior B football league. Clon took complete control in the second quarter. The score at half time was 4 - 5 to 0 - 2. Kilmac to their great credit made a game of it in the second half loosing at the finish on a score of 4 - 11 to 3 - 9.

On Thursday night the U14hurlers put in the performance of the week when they played St James in the league. Going in to the game with no great expectations they worked hard and were rewarded with a welcome if unexpected victory on the score 5-4 to 0-8.

On Friday night the minor hurlers had a convincing win over Goleen in the league.

On Saturday morning the U12 footballers had their first game of the season against St Colum’s and after an even game came out on the right side of a 1point win. Kilmacabea 4 - 3 St Colums 3 - 5

On Monday night Carbery Rangers were the visitors in the U16 hurling league and after a match with little between the sides the Kilmac’s did enough to edge ahead towards the end of the game.

Kilmacabea Notes 10/4/12

  Garnish made the long trip to Leap last Saturday evening to play Kilmacabea in the junior A football league. A very entertaining and competitive sporting game produced no less than seven goals. The final score was Kilmacabea 3 - 12, Garnish 4 - 5. The next round is against St Oliver Plunketts in Leap this Sunday afternoon at 2.30pm. Adults results are available on www.carberygaa.ie

The U14 and Minor hurlers were in action during the week and while results didn’t go their way it is early days and there are plenty of encouraging signs.

                 The first prize in the April club draw was won by Norma Whelton, Clounties; second went to John Cahalane, Maulmoreen and third Annie and Imelda O Donovan, Ballinlough. Consolation prizes were won by Ruarai Hourihane, Keamore; Albert Wilson, Killinga; Eoin and Shane O Sullivan, Mealisheen and John Patrick and Cillian Sheahan, Killinga.
