U14F League Final 6/11/10
U14 Football League Final v Kilmeen in Leap Saturday 6th November 2010 at 3.30pm
Result Kilmacabea 3-17 Kilmeen 2-5
The U14 footballers completed their long season when they played the league final in Leap. Despite the very changeable weather in the days before the day was good. Games between these two teams are always competitive and this was no different, the Kilmacs had greater strength in the key positions which was able to give them the advantage. The early exchanges were even but with good ball being played especially by Diarmaid O'Callaghan(0-4) and with Kevin Whooley (1-11)very sharp at full forward the scores started to flow. With Shane McDermott(0-2) also showing well and the other forwards Jonathan O'Regan , Damian Gore and Ciaran French linking well the Kilmacs were dangerous going forward. Martin Collins and Euan Tobin(2-0) gave the team a huge platform with possession at midfield all through driving the team forward. The defence though uneasy early on settled to completely blot out their opponents. Matthew O'Neill made some key saves Odhran Connolly was completely dominant at full back. Eoin O'Sullivan showed up well at corner back.Darren Whooley settled into the game and gave his usual wholehearted display. Captain Shane O'Neill was another who settled as the game progressed. Aidan Williamson was very solid at wing back all through and Daniel O'Sullivan had a super game to get the better of Kilmeens danger man. Tiernan Kerrisk, Ruairi O'Mahony, Issac O'Shea, Sean French and Patrick O'Donovan also played their part. Kilmac started to create and take the scores as the first half progressed and went in at half time ahead 2 - 12 to 2- 5. Kilmeen made a effort to close the gap with a goal and a point in the 1st minute of the second half but the Kilmacs reasserted themselves and the game was played out to its inevitable conclusion with the Kilmacs winning. This was a fine end to a season for this group who have had unprecedented success which has been due to the efforts of the players their mentors William Williamson, Kevin O'Driscoll and Tom Sheehan and the support of the families and the parish. It is a credit to them what has been achieved.
