Result - U12 football v Gabriel Rangers in Leap on Monday 12th September at 6.30pm
Kilmacabea 5 - 9 Gabriel Og 7 - 13

It was a very busy week for largely the same group of players with mixed results. On Tuesday 30th August the minor footballers were in championship action against Castlehaven in Skibbereen. The team started reasonably well and were competitive but with no player up to the age were at a disadvantage. Castlehaven had a better balanced team and were more effective in their use of the ball.  Castlehaven had the advantage at half time on the score 1-6 to 1-2. While Castlehaven got 2 quick points at the start of the second half the Kilmacs had plenty of possession and in fact didn’t concede another score for almost 25minutes. Unfortunately the possession wasn’t resulting in scores and the gap wasn’t closed. Inevitably the greater strength told in time and Castlehaven were able to close the game out in the last few minutes on the score 1-12 to 1–4. While the better team won it didn’t reflect effort the Kilmacs had put in.
On Friday 2nd September the U16 footballers played Sam Maguires in the Rebel Og West championship in Rosscarbery The team started brightly and made the early running. A key moment in the game was in the 11th and 12th minute, wen  after two incisive moves by Sam Maguires were foiled by two outstanding saves by Matthew O’Neill and a later chance was cleared off the line by Odhran Connolly. With the Kilmacs in control of possession and able to convert the scores, the game was effectively over well before the finish.
While it was a comfortable win it proved costly with injuries to two key players for the U16 hurling county semi final against Clondrohid played in Newcestown on Sunday evening 4th September. With the team having to be reorganized and playing into a gale force wind it couldn’t have got much worse with the concession of a goal in the 2nd minute. Despite being under pressure the team was working hard and kept the half time score to 0- 2 against 1-8. In the second half, in difficult conditions, everyone put in a great effort and the scores were now coming to reduce the gap. Unfortunately as will happen when a team is pressing they were caught for a break away goal on the 7th minute. Things got worse in the 14th minute with the conversion of a penalty and trying to adjust to the loss of a player another goal was conceded. In a testament to the spirit of the players they never gave up and almost pulled off a miraculous recovery in cutting the score to 4-9 to 3-8 when time ran out on them. It was a super effort by the players despite all the obstacles.
