The first prize winner in the club draw in August was Mary O Mahony, Leap. The second went to Chris Walsh, Drinagh and third were Michael and Ann O Callaghan, Limerick. Consolation prizes were won by Diarmuid O Donovan, Droum; Gerald Leonard, Reengaroga; James Tobin, Maulyregan and Donncha Burke, Maulatrahane.
The organisation and preparation and the help of all the volunteers who took on various tasks ensured that the senior football clash of Castlehaven and O’ Donovan Rossa held in the grounds on Saturday 6th August went off successfully with a large crowd being catered for and enjoying a top class clash between the local rivals.
The cul camp ran off successfully and while it was disrupted by the weather, was enjoyed by up tp eighty boys and girls. Thanks to all who helped out under the stewardship of Johnnie O Sullivan. These include coaches Dan MacEoin. Paddy Minihane, Michael Coughlan, Kevin O’Driscoll, Timmy Nyhan, Timmy O’Mahony, John Collins, Eimear O’Connell, Susie Forristal, Catriona O’Mahony. Those who helped out wiyh the running of the camp were Tommy Hayes, Marion O’Driscoll, Bernadette O’Driscoll and William Williamson. Jennifer Sweetnam and Sheila Calnan were on hand to look after the catering in their usual efficient manner and were helped by the parents. Paddy Kelly of the Cork Senior team was the visiting player. Hopefully the youngsters can follow in his footsteps.
On Wednesday 3rd August Ilen Og were the visitors for the U12 football league. At the end of the first half the visitors were comfortably the dominant side but the second half was a complete about turn. At the end the win went to the visitors but only after a tremendous effort from the home team and featured all that is good about this age group.
