The main activity during the last week was the Sciath na Scoil football finals which were played in Dunmanway on Thursday 26th May. All the local schools were in action on a day when a very strong wind with little heat made it very difficult conditions for playing. The girls from Maultrahane carried on the fine tradition of the school when they won their 9th consecutive title when they beat Ballinacarriga and the future looks bright for them. Glandore repeated last years success when they were successful in both boys and girls. The boys were first up when they played Lisheen in their final. It looked as if they were up against it when they were only 2 points up at half time after playing with the very strong wind. Instead they played much better against the wind with everyone playing their part and making very good use of the ball they were able to control the game and victory was theirs. The girls of Glandore took on their neighbours from Leap. Again the wind was an influence. Glandore had the upper hand and were made to work very hard before they also retained the cup. The Junior A footballers were in league action against St James on Friday 27th but had to give way on the score 1-11 to 1-7. The U13hurlers played St Marys in Leap on Monday evening but had to give way to a physically stronger and a much more skilled team technically. They kept going to the end and showed great spirit.
