Club Notes 17/12/12

With the shadows falling on the playing fields for another year, it is time to reflect on the year just passed and make plans for the new playing year of 2013. Foundations are being laid for the latter already: next years’ Under-21 and Junior panels have commenced winter training. As for the former, medals hard-won on the field of play are due reward for some great displays, and are a tangible reminder of how success can be attained through hard work, dedication and teamwork.

Our annual quiz will be held on Thursday December 27^th in the Leap Inn at 8.30 p.m. On the night medals won by our championship-winning Junior C panel will be presented, and presentations to Player of the Year and Club Person of the Year will also be made. All are welcome and a great night is assured.

Club Notes 3/12/12

Kilmacabea GAA held its Annual General Meeting on Friday 30^th November at The GAA Pavilion at 8pm. A large enthuastic crowd was welcomed by chairman William Williamson. He thanked all club officers and members for their efforts throughout the year and especially Treasurer Pat O Callaghan who stepped down from his position after 25 years of service. The chairman also added special words of congratulations to the U13 and Junior C footballers who won their respective championships and also to the Minor footballers who won their section of the league. He thanked the Finance Committee for their huge effort in reviving a Festival in the parish and thanked all those for making it a huge success, the adjoining landowners James Crowley and Brian Sheahan for the use of their land for the hosting of large games. Martin Collins, Kilmacabea was congratulated for his success with the various Cork underage development squads and also the other members of the club who were involved in various Carbery and Cork teams throughout the year. He finished by remembering all those club members who have lost loved one’s throughout the year.

Secretary Donal O Donovan gave his usual comprehensive report of club activities for the year, most notable of these were the hosting of the Junior A Football Final in September and also the revival of the Community/Club Festival in August. He also thanked Pat O Callaghan for the sterling service that he has given the club as treasurer over the past 25 years and hoped that he would remain involved in the club for many years to come. He also wished all teams and club members the very best wishes for 2013.

Treasurer Pat O Callaghan gave his final financial report as treasurer and reported that the club as a whole was in a good financial state going into the future. He wished his successor all the best in the position and hopes to be involved in club matters for many years to come.

Club membership has been set at €50 for adults, €20 for students and Underage €10. All new members are welcome. Notes 26/11/12

The minor footballers played Beal Atha’n Ghaorthaidh in the final of the league on Saturday 17^th November in Dunmanway. On a dry day the conditions were good.  While the team hadn’t played in a long time and preparations were patchy the team settled well and were on top from the start. With goals from Richie O’Sullivan and Declan O’Sullivan the team was dominant throughout the pitch and were well worth the half time lead of 2-6 to 1-0. The second half was the complete reverse.

Beal Atha’n Ghaorthaidh began to get on top around the middle and started to close the gap. By the 18^th minute the gap was down to 2 points and looking dangerous

The team managed to keep battling and were able to hold out for victory on the score of Kilmacabea 2-7. Beal Atha’n Ghaorthaidh 1-9. While it was hard won it was welcome and well done to all involved including mentors William Williamson, Kevin O’Driscoll, Martin O’Sullivan and Tom Hayes.  All members young and old are reminded that the AGM is on this Friday 30^th November in the Club House at 8pm. It is important to attend as decisions made affect the future of the club. A number of positions are to be filled incl Treasurer, PRO, Team Managers and Captains. Motions to be discussed include coaching for underage, insurance arrangements for players and the future of hurling in the club

Notes 17/11/12

The AGM is to be held on Friday 30^th December at 8pm. A number of positions are to be filled including Treasurer, PRO, County Board Representative, Junior and Minor Team managers or any post if there is interest. Team captains are also to be picked. It is important that people interested in the club should come along to have their input in how the club develops.

Club supporters are encouraged to renew their membership in the Club draw for the next year with the first draw being a combined two months at the start of December. This is an important part of fund raising with the money raised going to pay back the loan taken out for the redevelopment of the ground in 2009.

Pat Burke followed up his big win early in the year with another win in the October County Board draw.

Anyone interested in taking part in Scor is reminded to get in touch with William Williamson before Sunday 18^th as the competition will be starting the following week.

Notes 23/10/12

As the end of the playing season approaches most teams are nearly completed their playing programme. The U12 footballers travelled to Goleen on Saturday 20^th to play the home team in the final game of the U12 league. On a beautiful day it was a very enjoyable trip. The Kilmacs started slowly but as the game progressed they were able to get the upper hand and were able to make the trip worthwhile. Team Eoin Burns, Chantelle French, Davina Connolly, Oisin Brown, Dara Tobin, Jamie Ronan, Christy Wilson, Mikey O’Mahony, Adrian Gore 0-1, Oisin O’Driscoll 1-1, Ciaran Hernon 0-2, Sean Burke 1-0, David Whelton, Ian Jennings 1-1.

Club members are reminded that the AGM is being held on Friday 30^th November at 8pm. Nomination papers will be issued in the near future.

Kilmacabea Notes 16/10/12

Sport is full of highs and lows and after some recent lows last weekend had a number of highs. On Friday 12^th a very enjoyable function took place in the Celtic Ross Hotel for the September Sport star of the month awards with a strong Leap representation. The junior sports star award was presented to Martin Collins, Kilmacabea for his achievements in sport to date and especially with the Cork under 16 footballers and hurlers recently. The senior sport star award was presented to Ruthann Sheahan, The Leap Inn, for her incredible achievement in the world ultra marathon championship in Poland. It was good to recognise their  achievements. On Saturday evening in Aughaville it got even better when the second adult team played St Colums in the final of the Junior C championship. The team went behind early on but once they settled they were never headed again. This was a fine game from two committed and well matched teams and the game was always finely balanced. The Kilmacs had the slight advantage during the first half and were dangerous going forward. At half time the score was Kilmacabea 0-4, St Colums 0-3. The Kilmacs pushed on at the start of the second half to extend the gap to 3 points. Back came Colums and had their period on top and by the twenty third minute the gap was down to 1 point and the game could go either way. The break with a point finished off by team captain Barry Glavin in the 26^th minute. This was the turning point and the Kilmacs went on to win on the score 0-9 to 0-6.  This was a welcome reward for a group who had a slow start to the season but with the stewardship and drive of Noel Crowley a fine crew was gathered. This was a team performance with every player giving his all and their commitment to each other showed in the way everyone worked for the cause both in defence and attack. There was also a solid core of experience in the ranks. Well done to all and especially to mentors Noel Crowley, Denis O’Driscoll and Kevin O’Driscoll. The club is continuing the “Scrap Saturday” collection, this Saturday 20^th October 10am -2pm at the GAA grounds. Anyone who has scrap metal can tidy their place up and it will also help with fundraising.

It looks as if the U14football league play off vs Ilen Rovers will not take place this weekend.

Notes 9/10/12

  Adrigole made their long trip to Leap worthwhile when they played in the Autumn U12football league on Sunday, October 6^th. With a bit more drive they had the edge on the home team. The locals took awhile to settle but showed they had ability of their own also when they found their rhythm. 

The first prize winner in the October club draw was Kevin O’Sullivan, Reavilleen, second went to Deniese and Diarmaid French, Knockaneacrohy, and third to Mike and Anne McCarthy, Reavouler. Consolation prizes were won by Ted O’Donovan, Kilmacabea, The Milner Family, Bandon, William Williamson, Killenleigh and James Nyhan, Gortroe. This was the final draw for 2012. Supporters are encouraged to renew their membership for the next year with the first draw being a combined two months at the start of December.

The club would like to thank all who took part and supported the Rebel Og/Mercy Foundation Fun walk held on Saturday, 29^th September. Any outstanding cards to be returned ASAP. Funds raised will be shared between the underage club and the Mercy hospital.
