First prize in the May Club draw went to Anthony Cahalane, Clounkeen Second prize went to Warren Brown, Cullane and third prize went to Vincent & Bridget O’Callaghan, Dungannon Consolation Prizes went to Michael John O’Donoghue, Shepperton, Donal & Angela O’Donovan, Milleenanimrish, John O’Donovan, Fairfield, Keamore and the O’Driscoll Family Kellinga. The U13 footballers were in championship action on Tuesday 3rd May when they took on Clanna Gael in Skibbereen. It was a difficult night for youngsters as there was a very strong wind. The team played well but on the night they had to give way to a better team. The minor footballers took on Kilbrittain in Leap on Wednesday 4th and after a steady performance they came out with a win on the score 5 – 6 to 3 – 2. The junior B footballers played Randal Og in Ballinacarriga on Thursday 5th and the spoils were shared on the score 1-8 to 2 – 5. The club hosted the 1st round of the Cork County Senior football championship match between Carbery Rangers and Ilen Rovers on Friday evening 6th May and after extra time it finished in near darkness with victory to Carbery Rangers. Thanks to all who helped out.

The U16 footballers played Kilmeen in Leap on Tuesday 26th April. The visitors made a good start but as the game progressed the Kilmacs settled. After a good competitive contest they made the best of the scoring opportunities and were victorious on the score 5-17 to 1-10. They were in action again against Naomh Aban on Sunday in Ballyvourney. With some players missing and a double yellow before half time they had to give best to the home team. The U15 football team travelled to play Inniscarra on Thursday night and had to give way to a physically stronger and better balanced side on the score 5-10 to 4-14. The U12 footballers played St. Mary’s in Ballineen on Saturday morning in a game played in the spirit of the sport. The U14 footballers played Clanna Gael in Leap on Sunday morning and after a enjoyable game between two evenly matched sides, got the breaks to win on the score 6-9 to 4-5. Team Adrian Gore, Jamie O'Donoghue, Tiernan Kerrisk, Andrew O'Donovan, Ellis Wilson, Ciarán French, Sean French, Issac O'Shea, Matthew O'Neill(1-5), Myles Tobin, Ross Cantwell(2-1), Ian Jennings(2-1), Patrick O'Donovan, Damian Gore(1-1), Ashley Deane, Gareth Whooley, Eoin O'Sullivan(0-1).The junior B Football team were too strong for Bere Island on the score of 4-14 to 1-5 in Leap on Saturday evening.
The club would like to express sympathy to the Sheehan family, Leap on the death of their mother and grandmother Betty. The club are hosting the 1st round Cork County Senior football championship match between Carbery Rangers and Ilen Rovers on Friday evening 6th May at 7.30pm. All available help will be needed for stewarding.

Kilmacabea’s unbeaten run in the league appeared to count for very little as half time approached in their first round Junior A football championship game against St Mary’s in Dunmanway on Saturday evening last 23rd April. With just one point in the fourteenth minute to St Mary’s six, Kilmacs appeared to be in deep trouble. However three well worked points in as many minutes had them back in the game by the short whistle. Turning over to face the breeze and the strong evening sun they kept up the good work and were a point ahead when Joe Collins rattled the net from some distance. St. Mary’s, 2009 champions, refused to surrender and had the lead reduced to a single point with time running out but Kilmacs finished the second half like the first landing some good points to ease into the third round on a score of 1 – 11 to 0 – 9. Despite facing the losers round the men from the twin villages could yet figure in the shake up for the Mick McCarthy Cup.

The U12 footballers played their first game under the new structure when they travelled to Rossmore on Saturday morning 16th April. With a very small group and up against a stronger team they put in a outstanding effort that was very heartening. The U12 games are to be played under the Go Games format with all players playing in a rotational system. Games will be played on Saturday mornings over the next three months alternating in blocks of three between football and hurling.
The main fixture this week is the 1st round of the Junior “A” football championship when Kilmacabea take on St. Marys in Dunmanway at 7pm on Saturday 23rd April. Support is welcome.

The minor hurlers took on St. Colms in Leap on Wednesday evening 13/4/11. After encouraging a few more to turn out the team had the luxury of two valuable subs. It is one thing to field a team but the effort has also to be put in. The team worked hard and surprised themselves with a decent performance. The skills may need working but with the proper application things can be achieved. After a good contest the team was victorious on the score 4-2 to 2-3 and gives encouragement going forward. The junior A footballers continue with games in the Carbery-Beara-Carrigdhoun league in preparation for the 1st round championship game vs. St Mary’s which has now been refixed for Saturday 23rd May. On Friday 8th April they defeated Shamrocks in Ballygarvan on the score 2-12 to 0-9. They repeated that score against Diarmaid O Mathuna in Catletownkenniegh on Sunday 10th April. The minor hurlers played Skibbereen on Wednesday 6th April and while short on numbers it proved a worth while exercise to start things off. The U13 hurlers played Mizen in Goleen on Monday 11th April. After doing very well against the wind in the first half they were able to take advantage and get a hard earned and welcome victory. Latest News 3/4/11

Congratulations to the Kilmacabea Scor na bPaisti Instrumental music group who were successful in the County  Final on Sunday 3rd April in Ovens. The group consists of  Ross Cantwell(Drombeg), Ciarán French(Knockaneacrohy), Chantelle French(Knockaneacrohy), Amy O'Donovan(Killenleigh) and Julieanne Williamson(Killenleigh). Well done to all involved and especially to Martina French who has so much time into getting them to this level. This is an historic achievement for the group and a reward for their efforts.


It has been very busy on the playing fields
The U16 footballers played Skibb on Friday evening in the league. This was a good test and the team made the most of the luck going and were able to come away with a win on the score 6-12 to 3-7.
The U16' had to turn their hand to hurling on Sunday morning when Mizen made the journey to Leap. Even though the team was short on numbers the performance was satisfying  and showed that if the numbers turn out and with a bit of work the team will be competitive.
The U14  footballers made the long trip to Castltownbere also on Sunday. Again this team was short some players and were up against a good team which meant it was long trip home.
The Junior A footballers played Tadgh MacCartaigh on Sunday afternoon in Leap. The team got off to a very bad start and were 5points down after 5 minutes. Once they settled they began to create chances of their own and by half time were ahead 1-7 to 1-3 with the goal coming from John Christopher Keohane. Tadgh MacCarthaigh started the second half strong again and after 6minutes there was only a point between the sides. The Kilmacs settled again and were able to extend the advantage and in the end were victors on the score 1-12 to 1-9.
